Leigh Walter is a very energetic and passionate music teacher. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Honors Music) in 2000 from Western University where she had the honor of studying both double bass and piano with the former Dean of Music, Dr. Jeffrey Stokes and Patricia Giron respectively. She achieved her ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music and later obtained her Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University in 2002. With a desire to continue learning, Leigh achieved a Masters of Education (A Phenomenological study on the experiences of students within a community-based string program) in 2011 from Western University.
After deciding to reside in London, Leigh accepted a position with the Thames Valley District School Board and has since been working as a full-time elementary music teacher within the specialized area of elementary strings. She is a music mentor within the board, an associate teacher for Bachelor of Education students and has presented professional development sessions at the board level with a focus on designing relevant and meaningful instruction based upon selecting rich and engaging repertoire.
Leigh was a proud faculty member of the Forest City String School (formerly Forest City Talent Education) from 2003 to 2021. She first became involved as an accompanist and gradually took on the challenges of teaching reading classes for violin and taking over the conductor’s post for the Intermediate Orchestra. Leigh led the FCSS Intermediate Orchestra to win the Kiwanis Music Festival at the Provincial level three times and has also been awarded various trophy prizes for excellence in conducting and best musical performance for an elementary string orchestra.
Leigh is a dynamic person that loves striving for excellence in all areas of her life. She loves spending time at home with her husband and two children and is also a beginning woodworker, seamstress and entrepreneur for small markets. She enjoys busking with her daughter on violin and a colleague on uke and vocals, and spends as much time as possible on the tennis court!
